Game of Thrones or Game of Tones?

 Whom or What inspires you?
Art, music, walking through the streets of St. Paul, Minneapolis, and the surrounding metro area? Architecture? Movies, nature, books, interior sets of tv shows? That last one is especially true, as an interior designer and lighting consultant, I always pay attention to set design…

Design inspiration is all around us

The memes for George R. R. Martin, the A Game of Thrones author are getting too good…I laugh every time. It looks like the cast has a lot of fun together…

Tones, Shades, Chroma, Texture
Whatever the design term or element, here at Creative Lighting, we love to help you bring out out your inner Khaleesi.  In fact, we have created a Game of Thrones inspired display to help us through to the start of the next season…we’re that obsessed!  (No spoilers, we promise)

You can see in the showroom…
Some gothic-inspired, large scale pieces mixed with industrial, faux-castle-candle-chic. We incorporated gorgeous hammered metal two-toned recycled barn wood fixtures from Kichler with elegant rustic distressed pieces into the display. Also, check out this collection fom Troy Lighting, it is TO DIE FOR. You can see close-ups above and below. I LOVE to use the Pin it-app to pin my favorites to my lighting/home design boards. You can follow me here and follow Creative Lighting here. Watch out…Pinterest is as addictive as Game of Thrones (binging may occur) Don’t say you haven’t been warned!

Troy, Savoy House, Currey and Co., Kichler, Kalco, and Visual Comfort
These are some of my favorite go-to brands for this updated modern-rustic look. It’s so hot right now, but a lot of these pieces have a classic and timeless appeal, so in ten years, you won’t think, “Uh, why did I do that?” When I purchase for my own home, I think of getting a more classic look so that I won’t be sick of my investment pieces in 5-10 years or more. This rustic look chandelier from Currey and Co. has been around for centuries-you can’t go wrong:

Additionally, I love this Currey piece we have on the showroom floor, it’s rustic without being theme-y. I love all the multiple layer finishes from Currey and Co. They all go so well together, you don’t have to be afraid of mixing metals…

Visual Comfort makes this stunning piece that is a real show-stopper for a large great room, a high ceiling for a dining room, or 2 story foyer…

Hope you enjoyed this sneak peek! In the comments, share your favorite character and why. Mine is a toss up between Khaleesi and Tyrion Lannister. Happy Shopping! Come see me at Creative Lighting to see a little dose of castle-gothic-earthy-style. Even if this look isn’t your cup of tea, we’ve got you covered! Winter is not only coming…it’s already here! So, why not spread some holiday cheer by updating your lighting? Inspiration is truly everywhere. Until next time…
