I love it when you find the perfect “thing”…don’t you? The exact thing-a-ma-jig that you have visualized in your mind and been on a quest to find, then all of a sudden- there it is!
We love it when that “thing” has to do with lighting. Sometimes you just need that specific lamp to go in a specific place to tie your room together. One of our talented sales consultant’s, Alaura, helped a customer do just that.
“I recently had a client stop in looking for a pretty specific light fixture,” says Alaura, “The request was a bit challenging because she had a very strict height and width requirement, as well as three very different light fixtures that she loved that all had to look well together in the space. My sleuthing skills were on point with this one, as we ended up locating a fantastic Hubbardton Forge piece that was the key to bringing a cohesive look to the room.”
Hubbardton Forge is an American based manufacturer in Vermont and is one of the oldest and largest commercial forges operating today. They are well respected in the lighting industry for their high quality craftsmanship and exquisite artisan made pieces. They pride themselves on their craft, and are passionate about the American made product they provide. To learn more about their story, click here.
“The subtle curve of the hand-forged leaf detail in the lamp chosen accented the delicate crystals from my customer’s existing chandelier,” Laura continues, “The finish was in question on whether it should match some of the current hardware throughout the space, or a previous fixture she had purchased. I reassured her that keeping the finish in cohesion on the light fixtures was the right move. In the end she was very satisfied with her purchase and is going to come back to get accent lighting for her living room when she is finished with this project.”

Leaves of Gold– The Broche chandelier from Crystorama is a wonderful display of modern form with vintage appeal. Mixed medias and metal finishes are HOT, HOT, HOT right now and this is one of the best examples on the lighting market. This pendant’s versatile size and shape allow it to adorn your entry, or dress up your dining room. Whatever the location, this piece is sure to glam up your space.
Wire-y Whimsy– A wire-y structure is in high demand this year and we are loving the bright pop of color this red Quorum birdcage pendant provides. Such a fun accent to any neutral background, this piece can turn that space into a conversation piece.
A Geometric Gem– Structured lines and metal are one of the most popular design directions we are seeing explode onto the lighting scene. Artcraft hit the nail right on the head with this dynamic metal and cut glass barrel shade pendant. Metal and angles and gems…OH MY!
Pretty Patterns– Who doesn’t love a great little statement lamp? This navy blue bombshell is too cute not to share! A textured ceramic base and a beautiful printed Ikat-inspired shade- we think this guy deserves a spot by everyone’s bedside.
Outdoor Luxe– There is still time to spruce up that exterior! A great lantern makes for great curb appeal. The Bluffton series from Murray Feiss is a perfect example of an updated classic, and a way to give your home a fresh face-lift before the holiday season. Clean lines, with classic finishes and a textured screened shade make this a stand-out selection for your home.
Modern Restoration– It is no secret how popular this look is right now. We are seeing it in all areas of design. Steampunk vibes merge with clean lines in this industrial sconce by Elk Lighting. Featuring a nostalgic tubular lamp and a weathered zinc finish, they are naming this piece Laboratory and we are in L-O-V-E.
As hard as it is to come to terms with, the incandescent bulb has recently been deemed as nostalgic. Only a brief time after it’s official production ban- the trend on energy efficient lamping solutions shifted a bit and people started falling in love with the warm glow of a little thing called The Nostalgic Edison Bulb. Some call it vintage, others old-fashioned, but whatever the term- there is one thing that we are certain of, this bulb has reached new heights in popularity over the last 5 years and is continuing to change the lighting design industry today.
Nostalgic bulbs, or lamps, as referred to by industry professionals, have the look of the original light bulb Edison designed in the early 20th Century, hence their nick-name “Edison lamps”. While their light output is typically dim due to their large glowing amber filaments and low wattage offerings, these beauties are not meant to be used in areas needing strong task lighting, but rather in spaces where a dim, ambient type of lighting is appreciated. At $10-$15 per bulb, you certainly don’t want to hide these gems in fixtures using a frosted glass cover, or put them in a lamp or fixture that isn’t on public display in your home. These pretty little numbers do their best work when placed in fixtures that are front and center on display, and have clear glass surroundings so that their glowing embers can shine proudly and create that low-light ambiance that has people swooning for more. Open any design magazine, or take some time to browse through any popular interior design site- you won’t have to look far before you notice the use of this hot lighting trend. Whether it be in pendant lights above your island, sconces throughout your living room, or in the chandelier hanging above your dining room table- the look is dim and glowing, and these lamps are serving it well.
The jury is still out as to how long the Nostalgic Edison Lamp will survive in the energy efficient driven world we all live in today, but there are new LED versions of this bulb that are starting to emerge from some of the industry’s most powerful lamp manufacturers. With careful design execution, it may be quite possible for all of us to have our cake, (and eat it too), when it comes to holding on to that warm glowing feel that old incandescent lighting provides, while still keeping the efficiency and low wattage consumption that we have all grown to desire with today’s LED technology.
