Creative Lighting News

This year’s ASID Showcase Home was one for the books.  Twenty-five interior designers from over twenty different companies had their talented hand in creating this breathtaking Chateau on Lake Minnetonka.  Builder John Kraemer & Sons, and architect Sharratt Design & Company crafted a 13,000 square foot lake home filled with whimsical character and plenty of personality for the young family who get to call it home. It was the first time in the Showcase Home’s twenty year history that the project chosen was new construction- a massive undertaking to execute in only 11 months!  But, execute they did, and the final product will knock your socks off.

Creative Lighting had the great privilege in providing all of the beautiful lighting fixtures for this year’s project.  If you missed getting a chance to take a tour this year, we’ve got your highlight reel!  Take a peek at the stunning results and some of the extraordinary illumination that helped to make this house a home.

Every Great Room deserves an even greater chandelier.  The Waterloo chandelier by Currey and Company offered this grand space a graceful and traditional look with a soft, washed-wood finish for a fresh and updated feel.  It was an ideal piece to adorn such a dramatic room.

The Dining Room was a color-filled fantasy boasting vibrant hues of green and blue, that was beautifully accented with the stunning workmanship of the Currey and Company Grand Lotus six -light chandlier.  This gorgeous, sculptural interpretation of a classic bloom, was the perfect luminary accent for such a bold and sophisticated space.

It was our biggest and best Ugly Light Fixture Contest yet, and after hours of deliberation, the Creative Lighting Team has chosen a winner…

Congratulations to Laurie Plattes of Laurie Plattes Interior Design for her winning submission!

Laurie’s entry was a stand-out for several reasons.  The “ugly light” fixture submitted was actually the entire ceiling of an out-dated kitchen!   This ancient, back-lit lighting system created a dim and dreary environment for such a high task and heavily trafficked area in the home.  The transformation Laurie executed on the space with a new ceiling and new recessed lighting is bright, beautiful and much more efficient.  What a complete transformation!

We had several note-worthy entries this year that deserve recognition, however.  Take a peek at some of the other top contest-contenders, and our expert recommendations on how to update the looks with today’s top lighting trends.
